Gardens and Nature
Gardens, either your own or one elsewhere, often provide a safe-haven or sanctuary for many people. I have known people who live in apartments and only have a small balcony but are still able to create a visually pleasing garden. Others have a small piece of dirt in a community-based garden area. The key: listening to what nurtures you and making some version of it happen.
Most people I know live in the cement jungles of the cities. Some traditions say when we lose touch with nature, we lose touch with our souls. This may be a stronger personal need for some than others but I know I feel differently after a short time in a wilder, more natural environment. For more on this topic from one perspective, I highly recommend Fit Soul-Fit Body a book by Brant Secunda and Mark Allen, www.fitsoul-fitbody.com.
